The canoes in this series are efficient to paddle,
with sleeker, faster hulls than boats in our Versatile Series. Despite
the fact that performance gets the nod over versatility in these boats,
they give up surprisingly little in the way of versatility. And so, while
every model has its special talents, such as recreational paddling, cruising,
or long-range tripping, these are still well-balanced craft, ready to adventure
with you in a variety of ways.

| Horizon
Our flagship cruiser, constructed of tough, durable Kevlar
to meet the demands of moving water paddlers. Flare in the bow aids control
and keeps Horizon dry in chopp conditions and waves, while an efficient
shallow arch hull makes this a very fast canoe. The canoe for backcountry
paddlers who want the ultimate in performance. (Specifications) |
Horizon's soft ends and bow flare make it easier to handle
in chop an waves than traditional sharp ended canoes. A slight tuck just
below the gunwale increases efficiency when paddling. |
The asymmetrical hull offers the paddling performance
of a longer hull without sacrificing stability. The V entry yields to a
shallow arch bottom with a firm shoulder, giving the canoe the classic
Mad River feel. Bow rocker measures 1/2"; stern rocker, 1-1/2". |
Intrigue
The affordable Intrigue is a short, performance-oriented
tandem canoe with a Royalex Lightweight hull. Recreational canoeists will
like its easy paddling, tracking, and glide characteristics on flat and
smooth-flowing water. The Intrigue has ample capacity for weekend camping,
and is highly maneuverable when exploring twisty blackwater rivers. Solo
paddling is easy with the addition of a kneeling thwart or center seat.

Eclipse
The Eclipse is a stylish tandem canoe, a lightweight
and easy paddling craft designed for weekend getaways and day touring.
Similar in concept to our popular Malecite, sleeker and faster than the
Intrigue, the Eclipse offers performance, stability, and durability in
a Royalex Lightweight construction. It is the most cruising-oriented Royalex
canoe we offer. For solo paddling, a center seat may be added. (Specifications) |
The shallow V hull affords good tracking on lakes and
ponds. The low profile of this 16 footer minimizes the adverse effects
of wind and enhances seaworthiness. For maximum weight savings, the Eclipse
can be equipped with our aluminum gunwale system. |
To minimize the effects of wind, the Malecite's profile
is kept low at both ends. The flared bow allows the canoe to rise over
waves rather than dive through them, and the buoyant stern handles mixed
water conditions with ease for excellent hull maneuverability. The Malecite
is available in three composite hull constructions. |
Malecite
The Malecite is a true classic. Today's version of the
original Mad River Canoe is ideal for two-person day use or for short camping
trips. Outfitted with the optional center seat, it doubles as an efficient
and responsive solo canoe. The easy-paddling shallow V hull offers exceptional
secondary stability while maintaining the trademark speed and tracking
characteristics of a Mad River. (Specifications) |
Lamoille
Our premier performance tripping canoe, the fast-cruising
Lamoille, is stable and seaworthy. Its big, dry hull cuts through waves
for efficient open water paddling and does not pitch and skate in quartering
winds and following seas. Unlike other large canoes which become sluggish
when heavily laden, the Lamoille maintains its speed. The Lamoille KL in
aluminum trim with third seat installed is ideal for Boundary Waters style
canoeing. (Specifications) |
The asymmetrical shallow V hull has a touch of rocker
for maneuverability and a large expedition-size carrying capacity. The
streamlined bow and stern maintain the sheerline all the way aft of the
bow seat to easily shed waves. Available in three hull constructions, the
strong and rigid Lamoille stands alone for its combined handling of flatwater
cruising, whitewater performance, and wilderness tripping. |
Independence
The Independence, similar in design to the Malecite,
is our performance solo touring canoe for paddlers 150 lbs. and over. Whether
running light or fully loaded, the Independence offers dependable handling
in a variety of water conditions. It is a delight for personal day use
as well as long distance tripping. The KH version weighs just 35 lbs. and
has the durability required for wilderness travel. (Specifications) |
The V-shaped hull gives the Independence extraordinary
secondary stability, thoroughly predictable even when leaned all the way
to the rail. Slotted rails are standard. A contoured cane center seat,
canted 5° for paddler comfort is available. Sleek entry and exit lines
and flare increase seaworthiness. A hint of tumblehome near the center
makes for easy paddling. |
